I Love My Life!

My house is a mess, I have only cleaned my kitchen once this week. Yesterday I feed my kids lunch on paper towels. These same kids may have gone just a little too long without a bath. The good news is that the sickness has almost completely left The Nut House!

Even in the middle of my mess and stinky kids, I love my life!

I have had some of the best conversations in the past couple of weeks or so while looking for donations for Mended Little Hearts of Cville event & fundraiser. Do I wish that I didn’t really have to do any of this, absolutely, but wow I sure do love all the wonderful people I have met who are eager to help us out. Sure we got a good number of businesses who said no, not this year, or no you don’t fit the profile of groups we donate too and there were even a few who said “we don’t give donations at all”. But there were way more businesses who said yes. One golf resort even said yes before I told him about MLH. He also offered to have a golf tournament fundraiser in the future…and yes, I am thinking that is going to be both a good time and a fabulous way to raise money to help our Heart Families!

And regardless of if I got donations or not, I sent out donation request letters, emails full of information on Congenital Heart Defects and had phone conversations. Dozens of people who never heard of CHDs, now know about them. I may have been collecting donations to raise money to help support our Heart Families, but I also taught others about the number 1 birth defect. That is an amazing feeling, to have those one on one conversations with someone and knowing that have become aware. I have spread Awareness.

We have collected over 60 items that include passes and gift certificates for ski resorts, golf clubs, spa treatments, all sorts of gift baskets, chocolates, horseback riding lessons, arts and crafts, dinners, overnight stays, Monticello, movie passes, cute kids and baby items, and so many, many more. With more to be collected tomorrow.

We also have some baked goodies that have been donated and a few of us will be spending many hours this weekend baking even more tasty treats!  Finishing off our fundraiser will be a 50/50 raffle, with the winner walking away with half of all ticket sales. (ticket sales are only for the 50/50 raffle and not for admission)

So is that enough to make you want to come? I sure wish everyone I know could be there, but since y’all are spread out all over the country we will miss you!
