10 Things Tuesday: 10 Reasons I Love Girl Legos!

I recently heard that there was now a line of Legos just for girls, and I think it is pretty darn cool! I did a Google search about Legos for Girls and took a quick glance at the articles to see that there are indeed issues concerning stereotyping and gender issues. If you ask me it is all a bunch of nonsense. I have been complaining for years (2.5 of them to be exact) that there was not a line of Legos just for girls. This seems like a perfectly logical thing to complain about.

When I walk up and down the Pink aisle at Target, I am a witness to piles of perfectly uninteresting, non-educational, stereotypical, insulting junk, that I can’t seem to figure out why I should buy.

Now Legos on the other hand, are perfectly interesting, educational, and for years up until now mostly boy targeted, non-insulting bags of joyful bliss. So today’s 10Things Tuesday is dedicated to Girl Legos and why I Love them!!

Are Y’all Ready??

Here is my list for the week…10 Thinks Reasons I Love Girl Legos!

  1. They are Pink and Purple and Girl colors!! I have 4 boys, my baby girl is one tough girlie girl and she loves Pink and Purple.
  2. Honey Nut already Loves Legos! Shopping for her just got a bajillion times easier.
  3. Little girls should not HAVE to pick from dozens of boy targeted Lego sets. There is nothing wrong, of course with little girls playing with Dinos, Ninjas or Indiana Jones Legos, but why limit their choices.
  4. Until now, Legos available to choose from that were more girl friendly where your basic, gender neutral Toy Story, Cars or Lego City type of sets. Yeah, fun for little girls, but not the same.
  5. Girl Legos allow for more role playing with Legos. Unless they are always Hermione Granger or the nameless traffic cop, girl characters are limited and much less common in the average Lego set.
  6. Some girls like to play with girl toys. Some girls ARE going to grow up to be women who work in beauty shops, love to bake or spend time lounging by the poolside. Lego is not going to turn once gender neutral girls into cosmologists who love to spend time kicking back with their feet up next to their pool while waiting for their awesome homemade brownies to bake. Um, wait…is this a BAD thing?? If it is, call me brainwashed and then come over and eat my homemade brownies while we talk about how awesome it would be to be sitting poolside RIGHT NOW.
  7. Now the people that complain that there are no Lego sets just for girls have nothing to complain about.
  8. Lego is a quality product! For less than 10 bucks I can get my little girl a cute little Lego set that she will love and I know it is not a piece of junk that will break before the packaging hits the dump.
  9. Lego blocks and Mini Figures are tiny and easy to bring anywhere! We take them everywhere we go. It keeps the kids happy and that makes me happy. Now if Lego could just create a Strawberry Shortcake Lego set, my daughter would be in Heaven! And so would Owain for that matter, lol!
  10. All of this has taken my mind off of all the stressful moments in my life an given me something a little bit more amusing to think about…Like, how can I possibly wait until July to get my daughter some of these awesome new Lego Sets!

I need to point out that girls can play with “boy” themed Legos, and if my boys want to add some of the girl themed Legos to their collection, I have nothing wrong with that. I am just excited to actually see Lego realize that girls love Legos as well and should have this option. This post is meant to be a little silly.

I don’t have a top 10 this weeek, but I had to comment on the Girl Legos! I have always loved Legos since I was a kid and I think it’s the coolest thing ever that they have finally created some for little girls. They have always made quality products and I love that they encourage children to use their imaginations!

    Great top 10!!!

Thanks Stacey! I think they are wonderful & can’t figure out why some people just can’t let a great thing be great.

I like Lego brand anything! My youngest spent hours with the duplo bricks and animals. I seem to remember there was a girl set that came out years ago, with houses, and stable type sets, guess it did not last long and now there is a new girls set out. I’d buy it!

I think that they have had a box of pink Legos, but not a whole line of Legos for girls with themes. I think the new line of girl Legos is so darn cute!
