Extreme Couponing My Best Shopping Trip at Kroger

Last week I had my best coupon shopping trip to Kroger! The funny thing is that it didn’t take very much planning at all. I have spent way more time on other trips and not had nearly as much savings. One of the things I have learned over the years is that it is not about the number of coupons I have, but the value of the coupon vs the cost of the item.

I recently signed up for Kellogg’s Family Rewards. I have been talking about it for weeks, it is such a great reward program!

This is how I was able to get my best shopping trip ever!

Kroger has sales called Mega Event Savings, this is where items are on sale for an amazing price if you buy a certain amount. Many Kellogg’s breakfast items were on sale for $1.99 after the Mega Event Savings. For the most part, I only buy items if they are on sale AND I have a coupon, except for meat, which I only buy if it is marked down for quick sale.

I knew I had thousands of Kellogg’s Family Reward points to redeem, I had just opened a several dozen Kellogg’s boxes during the days when they were offering TRIPLE points. It is so exciting to know that there are coupons waiting for a sale to be printed out! I had enough reward points to print off 8 cereal coupons and 6 Nutri-Grain coupons, for a total of 14 coupons. Each one of the coupons was for $1.50 off one item.

So means that I was getting 14 boxes of cereal and breakfast bars for $.49 each!

I had another coupon that was $1.00 off of 2 boxes of Kellogg’s Pastry Crisps that was about to expire, so I used that one up too.

While I was at Kroger, I remembered that I needed creamer, bought 3 dozen eggs on impulse because they were on sale for $.99 and some cheese slices as a treat for the kids since they were complaining there was no cheese for turkey sandwiches.

My total before coupons and my Kroger savings card $66.55

My Kroger card savings $25.20

My manufacturer coupon savings $22.00

Total savings $47.20

Total amount paid for 21 items $19.35

Total percentage saved 72%

I also earned 40 fuel points, every 100 points earns $.10 off per gallon and it is great that I can earn discounts on fuel!

I also have 10 more Kellogg’s items with the Family Rewards logo on it to enter in and earn more reward points to redeem for coupons to be used on future shopping trips. I was bummed that there were no Nutri-Grain bars with the logo on them, so there are no codes inside the boxes on these, but the newer boxes should have the logo on them soon.

So that is my best shopping trip evah!! My goal is to continue to save like this and more on every shopping trip. I have 12 episodes of Extreme Couponing that I watch over and over while I am cutting coupons, cleaning the living room, blogging, or vegging out with my first cuppa coffee. I keep telling myself, Coupons are FREE MONEY, use them. Don’t forget that!
