Today we walked out of the dentist after the 3 big kids got their teeth cleaned and all three are Cavity-Free! This doesn’t happen very often. I think this might actually be the second time ever in the past several years.
I feel bad for my oldest son, Wing Nut, he has my teeth. I started going to the orthodontist when I was his age. I was in 4th grade and I got a few teeth pulled and a retainer. I don’t really remember what else they did for a few years, but by the time I was 13 I had braces. My son isn’t quite ready for all of that, but he has a small mouth packed full of big teeth.
He got his first tooth within a few days of being 5 months old. He also lost his first tooth when he was 5 years old. So he has had 4 years of loosing his baby teeth and squeezing in these massive adult teeth. Last spring he lost a tooth that the dentist told us he shouldn’t be loosing until he is around 12. This has cause much frustration for E Nut, who just turned 7 last week and I think for real this time actually has his first loose tooth. He has been running up to me for years insisting that he has a loose tooth and tries with all of his might to make it actually be loose. From the moment he turned 5 E Nut has been waiting for a loose tooth, talking about it, wondering why his big brother is constantly losing teeth while he sits there with his baby teeth and no fairy dusted dollar left for him.
E Nut is lucky to have all tiny little baby teeth that are easy to clean around. He has never had a cavity, and neither have any of the younger Nuts. Wing Nut’s teeth are crammed in so tight he has a hard time cleaning around his teeth. Now this is what causes so much frustration for him, the fact that he tries so hard to clean his teeth, and then every time he goes to the dentist, he has several cavities. Poor little guy.
Not today though! Today everyone at the dentist office was very excited and proud of Wing Nut for doing such a great job keeping his teeth cavity free. I am awfully proud of him too! It is awesome to be Cavity-Free!
