Take It On Tuesday

Have you ever had one of those weeks where no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to get anything done? A good portion of the past week has been like that for me. I think someone might have spiked my kids milk with an extra bit of Crazy the other day and they haven’t gotten over it yet. The exhausted looks on their faces at dinner tonight was proof that they might be sleeping in tomorrow and dragging their feet.

When the kids finish up their lessons for the day they get half an hour of alone time on the Wii Fit. I am talking about a half hour of high impact back-to-back games that leave them exhausted. I think that every homeschool family should have a Wii Fit, this is the best way for us to get exercise at home. My goal is to get lessons done early enough every day for the kids to each have a full hour of alone time. That would also mean that I can get my day finished up early enough that I can actually get some work around the house done.

I managed to touch on everything on my project list for last week, but didn’t manage to finish one of them. I got 5 more garbage bags full of things sent off to the Salvation Army last week. Those came from the living room closet, the pantry/laundry room, kitchen, and the bedroom. I have 2 more bags ready to go of to the Salvation Army already this week.

The living room closet it almost done, and if I could find an hour to really work on it I could get it cleaned out, and get everything organized where it actually belongs. Now that all of the kids seasonal clothes are no longer being stored in there, I am amazed at how big this closet is.

The pantry/laundry room is about 1/2 done, and the kitchen is almost done. I have been finding empty picture frames that have been in all sorts of random places, and completely forgotten about. I am filling them and hanging them up in the dining room, and trying to keep that room cleaned up so that we can get our Christmas tree set up on Thanksgiving day.

I got into the closet in my old office, which was like a the biggest ever junk drawer. I pulled 1 bag of garbage, and one bag for the Salvation Army out of that closet, and it is only about half cleaned out.

It is strange to look at all of the kids really nice expensive toys that they got for their first birthdays when we only had 1 or 2 kids, and know that no new babies will be joining the family to use them. I have had a hard time letting go of them. Some toys are 9 years old, still in great shape, and were given to my first born Wing Nut for his first Christmas. This week I will be going through all of the kids toys, getting rid of all of the toys that Honey Nut has outgrown, and giving the rest of the kids an assignment to each come up with as many toys as they can to give to the Salvation Army before Christmas to make room for new toys. We always try to get our old toys to the SA early enough before Christmas that hopefully they will find a new home for the Holidays. We have so many toys that we got at thrift stores for birthday and Christmas presents. Going to a thrift store for Christmas shopping can be like going through a treasure chest, you never know what gems you might find.

I don’t even want to talk about the mess that is still my new office/studio space. That place is a huge mess. I only got to spend about 1 hour total in there all week long. I have been pulling more earrings out of storage, photographing them, and getting them listed on Etsy. So far I have 63 pairs of earrings listed and of those listings, several of them I have 2 pairs of. I am closing in on the half way mark with my earrings. At least I hope so! I have way more earrings made than I remembered, I thought for sure I would be done photographing them, and getting them listed on Etsy. I have been playing round with my new camera, figuring out how to get good photos, and get them done quickly so I can get this done, and move on to my next project. Which will be putting up the Christmas Tree.

I have just over a week to wrap up all of these projects that seem to be taking forever.

What are you working on this week? Any big projects on your schedule this week?

I don’t know how you do it all! My kids (and I only have 2 of them!) are now in middle and high school and this is my first year not being active on a PTA, Room Parent or Girl Scout Leader, and I’m STILL having trouble getting everything done!!

I listed a set of greeting cards on Etsy, but don’t really get how it all works and even though I photographed and sorted new cards I never got around to listing them. You’ve inspired me though! Maybe tomorrow!!!

Kim, I have a terrible time getting everything done, but I sure try hard, and I think that is where I get my energy from, lol.

I love Etsy, once you get used to it, it is very easy. Good luck with it!

By doctors orders, my agenda still mostly includes resting.

It seems in my life, and several homeschool moms that I know feel the same way, that I can tell whether or not school was successfully accomplished in a given week by the state of the house. If the house is clean, very little learning happened and if the house is messy, lots of school happened. Now that my children are older, this isn’t so obvious to the casual observer, but it still holds true.

Take care of yourself while you take care of those little nuts.

Well then I hope you are still resting and recovering!

Last week we got tons of homeschool done, it was a very successful week. This week, not so much. Monday was so chaotic that I cut lessons short and we only finished about half our day. We are getting back on track by now though 🙂 My house was a crazy disaster by the end of yesterday though!
