Honey Nut is 18 Months! And We Are Still Sick…

Yesterday Honey Nut was 18 months old. She had her 18 month well visit as well. I can’t believe that she is already 1 1/2 years old. She is running around the house trying to keep up with her brothers, copying everything they do, and doing her best learn to talk. She can talk more than she does, I hear her talk to her self, and to her brothers, but for some reason she babbles at me. She definitely knows what I am talking about, and will climb into her highchair, put away her toys, or go lay down for a diaper chance when I ask her to. I always heard that girls learned to talk earlier than boys do, but so far she talks about the same as her brothers did at her age.

Her well visit went great! She is growing, and all of her percentiles are higher than her brothers were when they were 18 months old. Especially her weight! We call her Honey Nut, but she is also known as Chunky Monkey, she has the cutest pudgy baby cheeks! Tonight she ate her dinner, and when she saw me take away Wee Nut’s half eaten dinner she insisted on eating it. She usually eats more than her big brothers, I think it might have something to do with the fact that she chases them down all day long with her short little legs, haha!

Many times when we go to the Dr for well visits for any of the kids, another one ends up getting looked at. If you saw yesterday’s post you saw that most of us are sick. E Nut ,and Little Nut Nut are the only ones so far that have not gotten sick. I feel terrible that I didn’t catch that Wing Nut had strep last week, and that even when I was really sick last week that I didn’t notice that it was strep! Especially since strep can lead to rheumatic fever if not treated, and that can cause damage to the heart.

Talk about mom guilt!

The 5 of us who have strep have been on antibiotics for a day now, and are feeling much better. Honestly, I didn’t realize how sick I was until I woke up this morning after my first dose of antibiotics last night. My throat still hurts badly, but I have way more energy, and feel way less yucky in general. The kids are all feeling much better as well, and were full of energy that I didn’t realize they were missing until today. Again, lots of mom guilt here. I try not to rush to the Dr for every last thing, and end up sitting in the waiting room for hours just to be told that they have a virus, and that everything will be fine in a few days. Most of the time that is usually how it ends up. Every once in a while, I stay home when I shouldn’t, and it ends up being something serious.

The good thing is that we all have meds, and I have been following E Nut and Little Nut Nut around all day asking them how they feel, looking down their throats, feeling their glands, and looking for a fever…so if they do get sick, I will start them on antibiotics right away. All of this also means that for the next couple of months I will probably be running to the doctor with every last sneeze, but at least I won’t miss something big if it does come up. It’s a good thing we homeschool, this has been so much easier to work with the kids and keep them from getting behind, and overwhelmed while dealing with a sick family.

I am hoping that tomorrow when I wake up I will feel even better than I did this morning! With the way the kids were running around today, I have a feeling they will be full speed ahead tomorrow!

Glad your antibiotics are making you all feel better….I usually don’t run to the doc either…most things can be treated at home, but of course, sometimes they can’t!! No mom guilt about that, just doing what you feel is best…!!

Happy 18 months to Honey Nut…she seems precious!

Thanks Karrie! At least I will know what strep is next time I see it. Everyday is a new day to learn something new.

I love 18 month old children. Honey nut is gorgeous. I hope she has a happy half birthday. Some one once told me about celebrating half birthdays with a half a birthday gift. I don’t think it would be something we would do though.

I am sorry to hear about the strep but glad you caught it before it became really serious. Will keep you all in my prayers for a fast recovery.

Thanks Therese! I don’t think we could do half birthday gifts either, we have way to many toys between 5 birthdays and Christmas, lol. We don’t need any more toys! Thanks for the prayers, I am so sick of being sick.
