Three weeks ago when we started Wing Nut on Periactin, I definitely had hopes that he would be gaining some weight. I was thinking that he would gain a few pounds a month and it would be a gradual increase. When we weighed him after the first 10 days and he gained just over 5 pounds, we were super excited, but I wasn’t sure if it would be a quick gain followed by nothing or if he would continue to gain quickly.
I am just as excited tonight after weighing him as I was the first time. He did not gain as much as he did the first time, but he gained 2.5 pounds and that was enough to put him in the “Healthy Weight” range, at least according to the Wii Fit. He is up to 53 pounds and for the first time in years he is not considered to be Underweight.
His weight gain has been such a blessing. I am so relieved that he is finally gaining weight. There is a chance that this will jump start his appetite and after 3 months we will wean him down off periactin, and that he will still have a good appetite.
There have been other positives to his overall well being as well. He says that he doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night as often, and feels more rested in the morning. He wakes up in a good mood ready to start the day, instead of stumbling down the stairs looking like he only had 2 hours of sleep. His mood is much lighter, he is more agreeable, and helps out around the house with much less complaining.
We are so excited, and curious to see how much more weight he gains over the next couple of months!
From the moment I knew I was pregnant, I knew I was going to Homeschool…
Wednesday is Weigh Day for Wing Nut. He as been doing well for the most…

This is so encouraging. I can’t wait to see how this all comes together for him.

I know! He eats non-stop now. I just hope he keeps the weight on when we take him off the periactin.

Is this for allergies. I am pretty sure this is what we put my daughter on a couple of years ago to encourage weight gain. It did not work well. She is doing much better now. I am praising with you on this. I understand the growth issues

It is an antihistamine, but is a much smaller dose than what they would prescribe for them. His allergies seem to be much better this year though. His GI dr said that he can still have his usual dose for allergy medicine, but I don’t see any reason for it so far.
His weight gain is such a relief!
