Today is the first day of CHD Awareness Week. This is the week that we spend even more time raising awareness of congenital heart defects. There are events scheduled all over the country this week. Mended Little Hearts of Charlottesville hosted an event today at the University of Virginia.
We had a fabulous time! And a super busy one, so much so that I didn’t even have time to stop and get photos. We had a silent auction, bake sale and 50/50 raffle, along with our CHD Awareness information. We got to catch up on families who have been at UVa for a couple of months, as well as meet new families who joined us for the first time and a newly diagnosed pregnant heart mom. We had a couple of new families come in for our event and jump right in and help us out with running our event…which was wonderful and we definitely needed! It was awesome how quickly both inpatient families and families who were joining us for the first time from the area jumped in and just started helping out where we need help. I could feel how important this cause is to those that came and helped us out. The passion that came from our group today was amazing! I want to thank every one who came to both help us out and support us, y’all did an amazing job!
At the end of the day, it looks like we have several new members and spent the morning earning enough money to support our group for the rest of the year. We make some wonderful connections and I am so blessed to have met so many fabulous businesses both locally and round the country who stepped up to help us raise money to support our Heart Families. Our leadership team did a great job getting everything together and we have a huge support coming from UVa pediatric cardiology department. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing it felt to have everyone and everything come together this morning.
This was our first fundraiser, and our biggest event ever and I am happy to say that it was a huge success. Being the over achievers that we are, we are already working on our next event. I can’t wait to see how that goes too after the wonderful support that we got for this one!
Thank you again, to everyone who helped make our CHD Awareness Week Event such success!
