Sitting in the ER, again, wishing we weren’t here.
The nurses are getting to know us. I recognize them, they recognize us. One of Owain’s ER nurses from last month told me she thinks about him often, and has added him to her prayer list.
So. Darn. Sweet.
One of his nurses tonight was up working in Labor and Delivery the day he turned blue and was transported to UVa. They always remember him.
Owain’s pediatric ER doc tonight is THE BEST! He has the best bedside manner, and sat down to talk to me. He knows Owain’s cardiac surgeon, not sure how well, but he had nothing but wonderful things to say about him. He told Owain that he was lucky to have me as a mother, that I was a great mom. Be still my beating heart. The best bedside manner evah!
I had a long chat with one of Owain’s nurses who is also an EMT, her little sister has a Heart Defect. Every time we come here I talk to someone who is a member of the Heart Community. There is also an Xray tech who has a family member with a CHD, but she is not here tonight.
In the middle of the chaos that is the ER, nurses stop by his room and swoon over him, and his enchanting personality. I think he puts a spell on them.
I also learned that Sunday nights are one of the busiest nights for ER visits. One of the reasons is that people are trying to get out of going to work on Monday. Interesting. I think that was mentioned to me one other time when I was in here on a Sunday, but had completely forgotten it.
Since we have been here, Owain has gone from no fever at all up to 101.6, and now up to 102. He is on prednisone again, along with a dual nebulizer treatment that had albuterol and something else in it. It worked well for awhile, but now not so much.
His blood work looks good, and shows no sign of infection. That was over 3 hours ago, and before the doc looked in his red fluid filled ear, and before the fever. He does have an IV line in with a board taped to his hand. Better to stick once, and be prepared than have to stick twice when something goes wrong.
He is all junkie, he coughs and gags, and turns himself blue.
The chest X-rays look good, but he is rattly and junkie, which is probably in his upper airways.
The just did an RSV swab, and I am not happy about that, but he was even more unhappy. I really, really don’t want Owain to have RSV.
We are waiting on the nurses from the pediatric floor to come get us. We are staying the night.
I am trying not to be a cranky sick mess, and just get through this. I am so hungry though.
I am really wishing that I would have brought some of that homemade chicken noodle soup that I made to help us all feel better. It was really, really good. Like really.
I would like to be able to try to organize my week. I am drawing…
We are so grateful to everyone who has been praying for Owain and for all…

Poor Owain and mama! As CHD grown up (and mama to 2 CHD kiddos although minor compared to Owain), I know how scary chest infections can be. Hang in there, you are in good hands and soon winter will be over and hopefully everyone will heal. It has been a hard, sick winter in VA.

It has been a long sick winter in Va, I can’t wait for it to be over.

Praying for your little guy to get better! My son 23 months and also has a heart defect and had pertussis recently and had to have breathing treatments and anti-biotics. I don’t know why he had it when he had already been vaccinated for it? My son also got the synagis shots for RSV, but they mentioned he might have had that when we went in for the symptoms he had, but he did not have RSV. I hope you guys get some rest and the doctors take care of little Owain so he can get well and go back home soon!
