Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday! I would like to jump for joy that the weekend is almost here, but really, everyday is like the weekend now that summer vacation is here! Even better, we get to plan our summer vacation schedule, and when school starts because we are Homeschooling all of our little Nuts in the fall. I am so Thankful for Homeschool, and setting my own schedule to match our lives.

I was going to do a vlog this morning and show you all the awesome things going on in our addition, but since I haven’t made it to the shower in days, there will be no vlogging this morning. I did finish painting Little Nut Nut’s new (to us) bed, and got him moved up into his new bedroom. That makes 4 out of 5 little Nuts who have their beds up in there rooms along with lots of their belongings. Actually all 5 of the kids have their beds moved in and put together, but Wing Nut and E Nut are in New York visiting with Grammy and Grandpa Nut for a few weeks, so they just have their bedrooms with toys thrown all over the place. They had a few days before they left to hang out in their rooms and they went crazy up there, but they had fun and that is what I was hoping for when they moved in. I got Wee Nut’s bed put together, and all moved into the room he will share with Little Nut Nut, but he made it very clear that he would not be sleeping in his new bedroom last night. Night 1, total failure. We will have to see how night 2 goes. I think we will be spending lots of time playing up there until he decides that he is ready for his new room. Until then he will be crawling out of his crib at the end of our bed and throwing himself on me every night until he can separate himself from me. I am not sure if I am Thankful or not for the fact that my son insists on tossing and turning from one end of our bed to the other keeping me awake all night long. I am sure when he is in his own room, I will miss him, but for now – let’s just say I am Thankful for coffee, and lots of it!

I also finished staining Honey Nut’s dresser, and am just waiting for it to dry enough that I can put the seal coat on it, and get it out of the middle of the addition. What started out as a quick and simple project, ended up taking 2 days (so far) with another couple of days to finish it off. It looks way better than I thought it would for a refinishing job. I am Thankful that I am able to stop working on that project for a few days, and go for a few days without being covered in stain and paint.

We have had a couple of beautiful days! The heat wave finally broke, and I have been able to have the windows open for the past few days and it feels so good!

Today I will be emptying out the bedroom turned Homeschool room where the 3 oldest Nuts used to sleep. The room is still full of toys, and there is a closet full to the top with all sorts of who knows what that I have to decide what to do with. Over the past couple of years the closet has been the place to put things that have nowhere to go, but now that the kids have their own rooms, I have to figure out what belongs to who, and decide what is important, and what is not. I am somewhat embarrassed to say (but I will say it anyways) that I have no idea what is in that closet. When Little Nut Nut moved into that room when Wee Nut was born, we need to make room for his bed, so I tossed everything that would fit into the closet, and put his bed in front of the door. Yup, that’s how we roll around here. When we run out of room, we put furniture in front of doors. Well at least we used to, before the addition was livable! Now our house is opening up, and the wide open spaces are totally awesome!

As always, I am Thankful for my happy, healthy, wild little beasties that run around my house all day long driving me crazy, I am Thankful that we have a roof over our heads and for our wonderfully supportive group of friends and family and all the ways they help us.

So what are you Thankful for today? It is so easy to join in and tell everyone.

Here is how Thankful Thursdays works:

1. Post your Thankful Thoughts on your blog. Somewhere in your post please mention The Nut House and/or ourhappynuthouse.com so that your friends, family and visitors know where to find other Thankful Thoughts. You can also grab my Thankful Thursdays banner and link to that. Once you have done that you can come back here and add your post to MckLinky.

Not everyone has a blog, so:

2. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave a Thankful Thoughts comment in the comment section.

3. You can show your Thankful Thoughts any way you like, as a list, a story, a vlog, as one word, one sentence or just a picture.

Have fun!

Congrats on the switch to homeschooling. I’ve been so tempted to homeschool, but my kids are so firmly entrenched in the public school system that I think they’d hate to switch.

My kids are so excited to homeschool. We have a lot of homeschool networks and community in our area, there are homeschool classes, where if we wanted to, we could send out kids to homeschool school for a day. It is a homeschool co-op where if my kids wanted to take a course in something I have no business teaching, there is someone who will teach my kids that course and we could go to a small class with all homeschoolers. It is nice because every one chips in for the co-op and does what they are good at. I have never done it myself, but I have several homeschool friends who have done it. This year I think we are going to stick around the house for all of our education and then next year venture out into the homeschool community more. You should look around to see what types of homeschool community you have in your area and then ask your children about it. I never realized how many different programs there are for kids during the school day that they can take to make up for different programs they would be taking at public school.

Ask your kids about it and see what they say, they might just jump at the chance.

I started all of my kids with basic super-sized work books from the bookstore at 3. Some of them devoured them in a few months, some of them took until they were 4 to finish. That is what I love about homeschool, I can see exactly how my kids are learning and build from there. At 3 homeschool is all fun and games, lol, at 8 you might have to Google how to explain things, lol. I love every(almost every) minute of homeschooling! Good luck!!

      Thanks for the award 🙂
